Peter Forster’s  Judge’s Critique for Bitch Classes

May I firstly thank NEFRA, the FRS and the FRC of S for the lovely surprise presentation to me of a salver at the commencement of the show. It was a very kind thought.

I would like to thank NEFRA for inviting me to judge. My thanks to my two very efficient stewards Ann and Steve and to my very patient note taker. Finally my thanks to the exhibitors for giving me such a lovely entry of beautiful bitches. It was such an honour to be allowed to judge them.

I have one or two critical comments. The first is the excessive use of treats. Handlers should bear in mind the effects. Offering treats or tossing them up and down can alter the appearance of the head and move the centre of gravity and therefore the balance of the dog. The other comment is wrong positioning of the head when looking at teeth. A scissor bite can change to level bite.

I had a very enjoyable day judging and was in complete agreement with my co-judge

Val Orme’s  Judge’s Critique for Dog Classes

Firstly I would like to say that it was an honour and a privilege to have been balloted to judge the NEFRA breed Championship show, and my thanks to the exhibitors for allowing me to go over their dogs. Also sincere thanks to my two excellent stewards. There was a lovely atmosphere around the rings making it an enjoyable day. I was pleased with all my placed dogs and was in complete agreement with my co-judge on all the top winning dogs.

VETERAN DOG ( 7, 2a )

Some lively dogs in this class, certainly not showing their age.

1st OXFORD`S TARANBECK LAST FUSILIER Close decision between 1 & 2 just preferred the finish of 1. I first judged this dog 6 years ago. I liked him then and at 10 yrs old he belies his age. An active good looking dog with a lovely outline. Well constructed with the good forechest that is lacking in many dogs. In good coat and condition he moved confidently round the ring. BEST VETERAN DOG, narrowly missing out to the bitch for best veteran in show.

2nd STUCKE`S SHIREDALE MAGIC FLUTE FOR PENNYFELLS JW. A lively 8yr.old dog of medium size, with constant wagging tail. Good head and eye colour, with again a well developed forechest, good front angulation and moderate bend of stifle. Moved well with drive. Not in his best coat today.

3rd BELLAMY`S SPRINGLINDI SULLIVAN SPECIAL VETERAN DOG ( 1 )

1st GREEN`S HERTARNS Dr PEPPER ShCM. Hard to believe this dog is almost 11 yrs old. Very fit for age presented in good hard condition. He has a good topline and tailset with correct bend of stifle, with good bone and tight feet he moved strongly round the ring at one with his handler.

MINOR PUPPY DOG ( 9,1a)

1st LUTNER & HOLLAND`S TELURN ALREADY IN TROUBLE AT FLATCHARM 8mnth old stylish puppy with a well moulded head and lovely soft expression. Has the bone and

substance that seems to be lacking in some. Good front assembly with neat feet, level topline and good tail carriage. He moved well with confidence although I would have preferred to see him moved on a loose lead.

2nd ROSS`S DOWNSTTREAM FACE THE MUSIC 7 mnth old of correct size for age. He has a well developed forechest and good length of upper arm, good length of neck into well placed shoulders. Adequate bone, feet need to tighten but that should come with age. Moved well, just preferred the head of 1.

3rd CONNER & DAVIES`S HARLISTREAM ASTRADA

PUPPY DOG ( 8,1a )

1st GODEFROY`S CASTLEROCK MAGIC`S DREAM ABOUT FENWOOD Promising young dog of 11mnths. Lovely head and expression with dark eye. Well made

forequarters with good length of upper arm. Straight front down to tight feet. Good bone and substance. Presented a well balanced profile in good coat and condition. Sound and true driving movement. BEST PUPPY DOG
2nd COLSON`S WINDYHOLLOWS RAGAMUFFIN 10mnth old full of mischief giving his handler a hard time. Good head with dark eye and well set ears ,well constructed with correct angulation to front and rear. Just preferred the feet of 1. Moved well when settled

3rd CURTIS`S TALLISTAR MIDNIGHT AYRE

JUNIOR DOG ( 4 )
1st GODEFROY`S CASTLEROCK MAGIC`S DREAM ABOUT FENWOOD

2nd JACOB`S L`AMAI TEXAS TOMMY SWING Good head and eye. Soundly constructed with good bone and tight feet. Good length of upper arm giving correct angulation. Level topline and moderate bend of stifle. Moved out well but not quite the drive of 1.

3rd CURTIS`S TALLISTAR MIDNIGHT AYRE YEARLING DOG (3 )

1st HESLOP`S WAINEHAWKE WOODLANDER AT LAKEMERE. A medium sized dog with a well balanced outline Lovely head with kindly expression, good width and depth of chest with gradual spring of rib and good bend of stifle. In good coat and condition. Tail carriage a little high on the move, but moved well.

2nd WRIGLEY`S FLATCHARM BOOGIE WOOGGIE. Solidly built well muscled dog at the leggy stage in his development. Good length of neck and level topline with well set on tail. Moved well with drive, just preferred the head of 1.

3rd MCQUILLAN`S GEMSWIN BLACK MAGIC
NOVICE DOG ( 2 )
1st HESLOP`S WAINEHAWKE WOODLANDER AT LAKEMERE.

2nd HARRIS`S MARJOSI SPRINGTIME CHARMER . An upstanding dog masculine head with dark eye and alert expression. Well built with good forechest and moderate bend of stifle. Good bone and level topline which he kept on the move. Just preferred the head of 1.

GRADUATE DOG ( 9,1a )

1st FOX`S STEELRIVER BLAZING HOT AT BLACKTOFT JW. An elegant dog with a lovely head and kind dark eye. Well constructed with good angulation front and rear. Presented in good coat and condition .Well muscled quarters which he used to advantage moving with drive

which won him the class

2nd EGGINTON`S GLENDARUAL SEA THE STARS WITH PAJANBECK. A lovely young dog unlucky to come up against 1 today. Good head and expression. Excellent front construction with well muscled hind quarters, standing four square on good feet. Sound true movement.

3rd ROMEO-DIESTE`S HOPEVALLEY MORNING MAYHEM JW POST GRADUATE DOG ( 13,2a )

1st HORNER`S PAJANBECK MAGIC MOMENTS. This dog caught my eye as he came into the ring. He has a lovely head with melting expression and neat well set on ears. Soundly constructed with prominent forechest, good bone and tight feet. He moved with reach and drive. Will watch his progress with interest. Pleased to award him RESERVE BEST DOG and RESERVE C.C.

2nd BROOK`S CULMQUILL MAKIN` WHOOPEE. Another lovely boy of good type with pleasing head and dark eye. Short coupled with moderate bend of stifle. Strong muscled quarters with good depth of chest. He moved well round the ring with drive. Couldn’t quite match the front assembly of 1.

3rd WHITMORE`S CASTLEROCK MAGIC`S STAKE ON CLEARFIELD LIMIT DOG ( 11,3a)

1st TOMLINSON`S RAINESGIFT OVER THE MOON JW I have always liked this dog since I judged him as a puppy. He is the right size for me with a lovely elegant outline. Racy and well balanced with a super classical head and melting expression. With super tight feet and good bone. Well handled he moves freely with strength and drive. Very pleased to award him BEST DOG and C.C And then in agreement with my fellow judge the BEST IN SHOW

2nd WINTON`S BRAIDWYNN BENNIGAN. Well built dog of correct size. Excellent bone and tight well padded feet. Well proportioned with good angulation to front and rear, good topline and

tailset. Moved with drive covering the ground well. 3rd SCAIFE`S SHENNANJOY STOWAWAY OPEN DOG ( 6)

1st BRADY`S LLANTRUSSA HEAD OVER HEALS TO BORDERCOT. A dog I have judged before. I like his racy lines. He has a lovely outline, a well moulded head with soft expression, good reach of neck into well laid back shoulder. A happy lively dog giving his handler a hard time. Standing he can tend to drop his topline in his exuberance and constant wagging tail. On the move however he keeps a level topline moving with a good driving action.

2nd MOOR`S & ALLEN`S WOODAVENS SH.CH.WOODAVENS CRACKERJACK JW. Another dog I have done well before. Pleasing head with kind dark eye. Good front angulation with well pronounced forechest and well muscled hindquarters. He has a good depth and breadth of brisket. In good coat and condition. Happy show man who moved with reach and drive.

Rob Ashcroft’s Judge’s Critique for Junior Handling and Brace

May I take this opportunity to thank NEFRA and the Committee for inviting me to referee at the championship show

Junior Handing 6 – 11 yrs. No Entries

Junior Handing 12 – 16 yrs  1st Laura Leigh – Unfortunately this young lady stood on her own in this class, a well presented dog and handler, she stood and moved the dog with all the instructions that I asked her to perform in a correct manor, but if I were to be critical she needs to talk to the dog a bit more – Well handled

Brace

1st Broadbent – A well balanced pair that moved round the ring steadily with drive, straight, correct toplines and good tail action

2nd Green – Very mature pair indeed, not quiet the balance of 1st, her veteran dog was showing the youngster how it was done, took a little time to settle, pleasing heads and expressions, correct toplines, moved with drive
