Judge’s critique
I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge this show, also my stewards for making the day run so smoothly and finally the exhibitors for bringing their dogs and taking accepting decisions with good sportsmanship.Overall the quality of the dogs were good, sadly some exhibits were far too overweight which spoilt their outline, a few of the younger males were alittle proud of their tails, which could be an age thing and the ring was rather small which made accessing movement a difficult task.I was really pleased to find out that a lot of my final line up were relatives, a true reflection on a good consistent kennel.
Class 1 Minor Puppy Dog 4.4
1st Godefroy’s Fenwood Bay A Dark Side Of The Moon
My Notes say ‘simply stunning’ and that he was. Beautifully balanced with a masculine head and dark eye, well laid shoulders, good bone and feet and the strongest of toplines for one so young which he held on the move, excellent mover. Best Puppy Dog
2nd Adams Kissock Dark and Dashing
Another Lovely puppy of correct size, the best of heads with a cheeky soft expression. Excellent front construction, good length of loin, lovely round bone and strong rear quarters,in good coat and condition, moved well, just didn’t quite have the balance of 1.
3rd Hean Fenwood Bay A Dark Side of Arangold
Another correct size balanced baby, nice head, strong neck and well placed shoulders, good bone and feet, excellent width of 2nd thigh, just not quite as settled on the move as 1 and 2.
Class 2 Puppy Dog 2.2
1st Heneseys Caci’s Hit The Road Jack With Wrensmead (IMP SWE)
Balanced puppy of correct size, good moulded head with a sweet melting expression, excellent topline and tailset, good bone and the best of feet, strong rear quarters, presented in hard condition, moved well once settled, would have liked a better lay of shoulder to complete the picture.
2nd O’Brien Pampaws Pleased As Punch
Upstanding mature dog with a strong masculine head, good front construction, well off for bone and coat. Would prefer shorter hocks. Moved steadily.
Class 3 Junior Dog 8.1abs
Beautiful class of youngsters
1st Ross Downstream Face The Music
This young man took my breath away! Correct size elegant dog with the best of heads, kindest of dark eyes, cheeky soft expression, strong neck into well placed shoulders, spirit level topline and well set tail, round bone and cat like feet, drove round the ring like he owned it. Certainly one to watch for the future. Expertly handled.
Res Best Dog
2nd Godefroy’s Castlerock Magics Dream About Fenwood
Beautifully balanced young male in excellent coat and condition. Lovely moulded head, well set ears and long elegant neck. Correct length of loin, the best of feet and strong rear quarters. Moved steady and true, would like more brisket to complete the picture.
3rd Heneseys Cacis Hit The Road Jack With Wrensmead (IMP SWE)
Class 4 Yearling Dog 4.2abs
1st Skitmore,Fretter and Rose’s Stranfaer Bodufinolhu
Elegant young man, needs time to fill out into himself, everything is there to come. Lovely head with a sweet melting expression, good bone and coat, the best of feet, good width of 2nd thigh and well let down hocks. Moved better in this class when settled.
2nd Hammersleys Buckleyhill Morpheus For Nellspeace
Upstanding, heavier type dog. Moulded masculine head, good front construction, deep body and cat like feet, very erratic in hind movement.
Class 5 Novice Dog 6.1abs
1st Heneseys Cacis Hit the Road Jack With Wrensmead (IMP SWE)
2nd Mcquillan’s Gemswin Black Magic
This elegant young man is very immature, but his confirmation and movement cannot be denied, what you see is what you get. The best of heads with a gentle sweet expression and a hint of cheekiness, strong neck and topline, correct length of loin, strong rear quarters and the most beautiful of feet, one of the best movers of the day.
3rd White’s Rievaulx Sea Biscuit of Whiteabbey
What a coat! Medium sized, balanced young male, excellent topline and tailset, correct loin and good width of 2nd thigh, a little over exuberant on the move, would like a more classical head.

Handsome male of correct size, beautifully balanced in excellent coat and condition. Classical head with a kind dark eye and melting expression. Well placed shoulders, tight elbows and oval feet. Stong rear quarters, well let down hocks and correct length of loin. Moved well, handled to advantage.
2nd Mcqullians Gemswin Black Magic

Class 7 Post Graduate Dog 7.1abs
1st Henesey’s Santonwood Lowry At Wrensmead JW
I have admired this young man from the ringside, Medium sized elegant dog, beautiful head and expression, correct front construction, in gleaming coat and condition, strong topline and well angled rear quarters, moved well, considered for top honours but he was a little too proud of his tail in the challenge.
2nd Newtons’s Jasper Im No Angel
My notes read, good honest, workmanlike dog. Medium size, in full coat and the hardest of condition. Masculine moulded head with the cheekiest of expressions, well off for bone, the best of feet, good topline and tailset, strong rear quarters, this boy never stopped wagging. Would like tighter front movement to complete the picture. Moved well with drive.
3rd Slack’s Islstrom Glen Dhu
Smaller size dog, every inch a flatcoat, one of the best heads of the day, the darkest of eyes and the most melting of expressions. In Gleaming coat, neat tight feet, excels in front construction, would like a stronger topline, correct length of loin and 2nd thigh. Needed to be moved quicker to really appreciate how this dog can move.
Class 8 Limit Dog 8.8
Beautiful Class I was spoilt for choice, could all change places on another day.
1ST Whitmore’s Castlerock Magics Stake On Clearfield
Another dog I have admired many times from the ringside, I have never seen him look so good as he did today, he just commanded attention. All male, but still has the elegance a flatcoat requires. His head is to die for with a melting dreamy soft expression, excels in front construction, tight feet, good strong topline, short loin and well set tail, which he carried perfectly on the move, powering round the ring effortlessly, pleased to award him Best dog and res Best in Show.

Lovely young dog, glamorous yet workmanlike, in excellent coat and condition. Classical moulded head with a sweet gentle expression and a kind dark eye. Round bone and tight cat like feet, strong level topline and excellent tailset, correct rear angulation and well let down hocks. Constantly wagging his tail whilst flowing effortlessly round the ring, just lost out to a more mature dog on top form.
3rd Brook’s Culmquill Makin Whoopee
This chap stole my heart with his ever wagging tail and his smiley face. Beautiful classical moulded head, with the most melting of expressions. Good front construction, well off for bone, good coat and the most lovely feet. Correct width of 2nd thigh, short hocks that were well let down, moved well once settled, he was overloaded on his shoulders which spoilt his overall outline.

Class 10 Veteran Dog 2.2
1st Fox’s Blacktoft Ever Blazin
Hard to believe this gentleman is a veteran. Correct sized workmanlike dog, has the correct amount of raciness without weediness, showing power without lumber, just as a flatcoat in its prime should. Classical moulded head with the darkest of eyes and a soft kind expression, good front confirmation, strong topline with his tail flowing straight off his back, strong rear, with short well let down hocks, he powered round the ring like a 3 year old. 3rd Elrod’s Arrowhill Stargazer
Upstanding bitch, another one that was far too overweight, a little strong in the head for a bitch, good front construction, dropped topline due to being overweight, correct length of loin and 2nd thigh. Would like much tighter feet. Moved ok.

She demanded attention and she got it, didn’t hesitate to give her Best in Show.
